Default Canarian Weekly: Drug-dealer nabbed, after 10 years on run

A NOTORIOUS drug-dealer, in hiding for 10 years,

has been snatched by cops after a joint British and Spanish operation.

Michael Walsh, 75, was arrested in Malaga, having fled Yorkshire back in 2007 after being convicted of cultivating and supplying cannabis in Scarborough.

“As this case shows, some criminals think that because they can’t see us, we can’t see them,” said Paul Somerville, North Yorkshire Police Intelligence Management Officer.

“But in this day and age, few offenders are genuinely untraceable … and they all leave footprints.

“By working closely with British and Spanish authorities, we’ve been able to arrest a convicted drug-dealer, who has gone to great lengths to evade justice.”

Walsh was jailed for five years and nine months on drugs offences in 2005. But after his December 2007 release, he was soon recalled for breaking the terms of his parole.

Instead of handing himself in, though, he fled to Spain, where patient officers have taken until now to track him down.
