Default Tax Proof of income required by La Caixa bank for my non-resident account

I have had a legitimate non-resident Spanish bank account for 10 years and am currently banking with La Caixa Bank.
Just before Christmas, I did receive notification from the bank to prove my income, (salary/pension) and taxation from my country of residence. I had 4 weeks to do this, before the bank would freeze my Spanish account.
Luckily, I have Internet Banking, and could prove my British income and taxation online with Barclays whilst on holiday here in Tenerife.
If this is a new directive from the Spanish banks on behalf of the Spanish Government, I suggest that all non-residents should obtain a copy of their current P60 and bank statement. This has no relationship to the Spanish banks’ “non-resident certificate”.
